The 12th European Combustion Meeting (ECM) will follow a similar format as previous ECMs, where the conference revolves around five plenary lectures and five poster sessions. Each poster will require participants to submit a poster abstract and ECM manuscript.
A new feature of ECM 2025 is the introduction of an ECM - Proceedings of the Combustion Institute (PROCI) Track. Participants can choose to submit their paper to the Special Issue of the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute. This opportunity does not change the historical acceptance process for ECM paper/poster presentations. It is an additional opportunity for authors who would like their paper to be considered for the PROCI Special Issue.
The manuscript format for the ECM-PROCI Track and ECM Track will be the same and will adhere to the guidelines of the International Combustion Symposium. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the PROCI format, which is 8 pages in length (MS word and LaTex templates provided at the bottom of this page). The ECM-PROCI Track manuscripts will undergo an initial evaluation by the ECM Scientific Committee, which will involve desk rejection. Following this initial evaluation, the standard PROCI review process will commence, which includes the same review procedure as the International Combustion Symposium. The ECM Track manuscripts will follow the normal ECM process, where the papers will not be published, but be made available to participants to facilitate poster discussions.
It is important to note that authors must submit an Abstract and ECM manuscript. Any ECM-PROCI Track manuscript that does not have an author registered and available for presentation at the ECM will not be considered for the ECM-PROCI Track. Exceptions associated with authors with unsuccessful visa applications can be reconsidered.
ECM-PROCI Track manuscript deadline: 13th March 2025 (23:59 UTC; 00:59 CET). This is a hard deadline and cannot be extended in order to meet the timelines stated below.
Supplmental Material: For the submission on 13th March, authors are asked not to include supplemental material. The ECM proceedings are not designed to handle supplemental material, especially when they are in the form of an animation. ECM-PROCI track manuscripts will first undergo a desk rejection review (see details below). Authors of manuscripts advancing beyond the desk rejection will be asked to upload their manuscript to a PROCI editorial manager on 2nd May. At that time, authors can include their supplmental material for their ECM-PROCI manuscript.
- 13th March: ECM-PROCI Track (and ECM Track) manuscript submission deadline. Manuscripts will be submitted on ECM website.
- 13th March - 17th April: A desk rejection process is led by ECM Scientific Committee.
- 17th April: Authors are notified desk rejection outcome. Authors of successful manuscripts will be asked to submit their manuscript to a PROCI Editorial Manager. Minor modifications to the manuscript are allowed at this stage to improve the quality of the manuscript based on feedback at the ECM.
- 2nd May: Deadline for authors to submit their ECM-PROCI manuscript to the PROCI Editorial Manager.
- 1st July: Guest Editors of ECM-PROCI send reviews to authors and ask for a 1-page rebuttal to reviewer comments.
- 8th July: Deadline for authors to submit their 1-page rebuttal
- 13th July: Authors notified of decision. If decision is “proceed”, authors are invited to address the reviews in a revised manuscript. As per PROCI regulations, authors will be granted an additional page in their revised manuscript to address reviews. If decision is “reject”, authors are welcome to revise and submit their manuscript to another journal.
- 1st September: Deadline for authors to submit their revised manuscript to the PROCI Editorial Manager.
- 21st September: Final decision is announced to authors
